Just nineteen kilometers off from Los Angeles, is the dazzling City of Whittier. A lot of visitors arrive in the city every year for the wonderful scenic beauty and varied places of interest. One such landmark is the Founders Park which has been build over the three cemeteries of Broadway, Mount Olive and Whittier. Once abandoned, now this land has been carefully landscaped and the list of dead has been put up inside the park. The Pio Pico Historical State Park gets its name from the last ever Mexican Governor of the state of California, who worked towards the mergers of American and Mexican culture in this region. A museum with important documents of his time has been established here.
An interesting place to visit in Whittier is the Paradox Hybrid Walnut Tree. A cross breed of Black and English walnut, this tree is reminiscent of the era, when Walnut trees were very common in these parts of California. The tree’s length has now reached above hundred feet and its trunk is of fourteen feet diameter.
